Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences

Howard Gardner as an important influence on instruction because all children acquire knowledge through multiple intelligences, differentiating instruction to target the strengths of the learners in a classroom is extremely important. Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory includes Linguistic Intelligence, Logical/Mathematical Intelligence, Musical Rhythmic Intelligence, Body Kinesthetic Intelligence, Spatial Intelligence, Naturalistic Intelligence, Intrapersonal Intelligence, Interpersonal Intelligence, and Existential Intelligence (Wiles & Bondi, 2007, p. 167). Gardner expresses the importance of recognizing the multiple intelligences in instruction because all children learn how to employ language and its variety of uses differently. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Indigos are concerned with Interpersonal intelligence regarding the capacity to understand the intentions, motivations and desires of other people and Intrapersonal intelligence entails the capacity to understand oneself, to appreciate one's feelings, fears and motivations. ____________________________________________________
In addition to his 7 multiple Intelligences Gardner adds a naturalist intelligence, a spiritual intelligence and an existential intelligence.

"Naturalist Intelligence
enables human beings to recognize, categorize and draw upon certain features of the environment. It combines a description of the core ability with a characterization of the role that many cultures value."

Indigos have a sharp and keen sense or intuition if something does not feel right. They have the power to sense things before others will.

"Spiritual Intelligence speaks of an intelligence that explores the nature of existence in its multifarious guises. Thus, an explicit concern with spiritual or religious matters would be one variety - often the most important variety - of an existential intelligence."

Indigos are know for their psychic aura and sense of knowing what others are thinking. They can be classified as very spiritual individuals.

"Existential intelligence
can be defined as the ability to be sensitive to, or have the capacity for, conceptualizing or tackling deeper or larger questions about human existence, such as the meaning of life, why are we born, why do we die, what is consciousness, or how did we get here."

Indigos are extremely sensitive individuals who always want to know why and question everything. They are so intelligent and curious about life, the world, themselves, and everything that surrounds them.
